Innovative Therapies for Allergies, Sensitivities, and Immune Health
Low Dose Allergen (LDA) and Low Dose Immunotherapy (LDI) are novel therapies designed to sensitize the immune system to allergens and autoimmune disease. By using extremely low doses of allergens, pathogens and other substances, we are able to elicit an immune response to hopefully correct the current dysfunction that is responsible for many of the symptoms of these diseases.
Oftentimes, the body is too overwhelmed to sufficiently handle the burden of this dysfunction. By introducing minute amounts in the periphery, in the form of an intradermal injection in the forearm (similar to a PPD tuberculosis skin test), the immune system is able to develop a response to suppress the cells that are causing allergy and autoimmune cascade responses.
At Crossroads Integrative Medicine , we have been administering LDA and LDI to our patients for over 10 years. We treat conditions ranging from seasonal allergies and eczema to Lyme Disease and Interstitial cystitis. Seasonal allergies, Eczema and Chemical sensitivity treatments are relatively straightforward requiring little to no adjustment in potency of the formula. Complex autoimmune disease requires a little more flexibility and finesse. We need to carefully adjust the potency over time according to your symptomatic response.
You should expect to get six treatments over the course of one year in order to elicit an appropriate immune response for symptoms that are not complex (allergic rhinitis, eczema, asthma). At that time, we will reassess whether the therapy needs to be continued at all or if we will reduce the frequency of treatments. Booster doses once or twice yearly may be needed. More complex patients with significant health issues may expect 16 to 18 treatments at regular 2 month intervals.
LDA and LDI are not covered by insurance. The cost of each injection is $125 regardless of how many formulas are included. I
